Years ago, I worked in a bank.  One day I made a call on a chiropractor.  All I "knew" about chiropractors at the time was that they were quacks.  But this guy seemed like a pretty decent fellow, and I left with some of his literature.  When I got back to the office, my secretary said to me "Don't give me any work! I'm taking tylenol and imitrex for my headache, alka seltzer because my stomach is upset, sinus stuff for my allergies, and I can't think anyway so just leave me alone!" I knew she had suffered with frequent migraines for years and had tried about everything and seen all the specialists without real benefit. One of the pamphlets I had picked up was about migraines and it said chiropractic could help.  I about forced my secretary to go, one because I wanted to see what this chiropractic could do, and two I needed her to be able to work.

After just a few weeks her headaches were gone, and she was off the medications. I was blown away!  I called and asked to meet with the chiropractor in person to talk.

"You mean you used just your hands, and did an "adjustment", and that's what got rid of her headaches?" I asked him.  He just laughed and said "There's a little more to it, but that's about it."  We talked some more and I asked if he had a book on chiropractic I could borrow.  I didn't know that a book about chiropractic would really just be a book about the human body.  What he gave me was a book on chiropractic philosophy.  One of the first things I read was that the body was a self-healing, self-regulating organism, and when things are not working right, there was always a reason; most of the time, that reason was all or in part due to nerve system interference.  That just made too much sense to me, especially after I had seen it in action with my secretary.  I started chiropractic college about two years later.

Chiropractic philosophy, why we do what we do, is really what sets us apart from all the other healing professions.
